Ever thought what makes one a good coach? Is it some inherent quality or the kind of training that they get? Well, you can say that both matters. More than having a passion for coaching, the kind of training that one is getting matters. It’s not enough to just get enrolled under any coach training program.
You should look for a course that follows the guidelines set forth by the International Coach Federation (ICF) or other coaching regulatory bodies like EMCC or CCE. To become a professional ICF Certified coach, it is important to undergo ICF mentor coaching. So, what is ICF mentor coaching?

The sessions need to be well documented to be sent along with the application forcredential.
A minimum of three of the ten mentoring hours must be one-on-one coaching with the mentor. Group or peer coaching may count for a maximum of seven hours toward the mentoring requirement.

Certification for coaching comprises of different levels and pathways. The standard certification credentials in ascending order are ACC (Associate Certified Coach), PCC (Professional Certified Coach) and MCC (Master Certified Coach).
Each certification program can be followed by applying for credentialing with varied criteria. However, the part of mentor coaching remains mandatory for all. After completing the coach training, one has to get mentoring sessions under a certified mentor coach for validation by the ICF.
In this case, the level of the mentor coach is also taken into consideration. In the case of mentoring ACC aspirants, the mentor coach should have ACC, PCC, or MCC certification.
