How to get ICF Credentials?

ICF credential is the next step that you take after completing coach training. It is not mandatory, but getting the credentials gives you an edge among other non-credentialed professionals. The International Coach Federation (ICF), is a globally recognized organization for professional coaches, their credential is held in high regard. It adds credibility to one’s ability and skills as a coach. It acts as a validation that the person is adept with the core coaching competencies and the code of conduct and ethics within the coaching profession.

 

 

What is ICF Credentialing?

ICF Credentialing is an independent certification received post the International Coach Federation evaluation for the coach’s competency and ability to fulfill his/her coaching duties while upholding the highest standards set by the organization. Post credentialing makes coach the part of an elite network of coaches who bring accountability through their practice to the profession and the clients they work with.

ICF Credentialing can only be obtained after one has gone through the comprehensive education and coach-specific training, practiced several hours with the clients and has provided legitimacy to their utmost commitment as a professional and their integrity towards the coaching profession.

Why is it important to get ICF Credential?

Anyone serious about pursuing coaching as a profession and want to either start their practice or join an organization can benefit immensely from this acknowledgment. The ICF credential validates one’s professional and ethical standards as a coach and their commitment towards the clients. 

What is the eligibility of applying for an ICF Credential? 

The eligibility to apply for ICF credentialing is the completion of an ICF accredited training program (coach-specific) and coaching experience. People enrolled under a non-accredited program which meets the requirements of ICF credential can apply as well. In such a case, ICF decides after reviewing the non-accredited program's module before accepting the credential application. 

What are the Different Levels of ICF Credentialing?

There are three levels of ICF credentialing, which are:

1.     ICF ACC

2.     ICF PCC

3.     ICF MCC

When applying for credentialing, you have to corroborate it with the level of the training and experience hours you complete. For example, if you have completed 60 hours of coach-specific training and 120 hours as coaching experience, then you will have to apply for ACC credentialing, and the same goes for the other two. The eligibility for each credentialing varies from each other, which depends upon the number of coach training hours, mentor coaching hours, coach experience hours, etc.

How long does ICF take to review the credential application?

The time taken to review depends on the type of pathway you trained in. For instance, the application under the ICF-ACSTH takes around 4 weeks for review by ICF. While in ICF-ACTP, ICF takes at least 14 weeks to review credential application. For portfolio paths and MCC credential evaluation, ICF takes up to 18 weeks.
