The Eligibility Requirements of ICF Certification

The ICF or International Coach Federation certification credits the skills and specialties of coaching professionals adding a new star to their resume for career advancement. The certification program, like all other similar programs has a few eligibility ICF certification requirements that candidates need to meet to qualify. One can get their life coach certification online through a trusted party, provided they satisfy the criteria laid out ahead.

  • To be a member, you need to have a current ICF credential which could be any of ACC, MCC or PCC.
  • To apply, you need to have completed any of the ICF certification training programs. Even a 60 hours training counts as long as it is ICF standard.
  • New members need to get enrolled with some ICF accredited coaching program that has the distinction of either ACTP or ACSTH.

Qualifications
The trainings that are accepted by ICF as coach-specific are:
  • Training in any Accredited Coach Training Program counts as long as it has the tag of ICF Approach Coach. Needless to say that ICF accredited coaching programs meet the required qualifications.
  • The training that you have had needs to have designation of specific hours.
  • If you have been trained by a provider of Continuing Coach Education, then the approved hours for all core competences will be accepted. Outside of that, a 12 hours cap applies above which the hours are not counted.
There are some trainings that are not approved as coach specific. They are those that are marketed as teaching programs for other skills which though are used often by coaches in selected circumstances, personal development programs and educational courses that focus on counselling, psychology and such subjects. Then again, exceptions are made for those courses that are designed with the ICF Core Competencies perspective.
